Grand Council of the Crees

Since 1989, gordongroup has worked with the Grand Council of the Crees, as well as the Cree-Naskapi Commission, the Post-Secondary Program of the Cree School Board, the Cree Health Board, the Eenou-Eeyou Limited Partnership and others. We have produced a vast number of trilingual (English, French and Cree) communications products: referendum collateral, advertisements, annual reports, news magazines, public speaking documents and visual support, history books and more.

The biggest project has been a four-part documentary feature-length film series: The Eeyouch of Eeyou Istchee. It explores the reaction of the James Bay Crees to the huge James Bay hydroelectric project that dammed or diverted all major rivers in Eeyou territory. Highlighting the social, political, economic and spiritual life of the Eeyouch, the films use first-person accounts by the signatories to the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement to show how they defended their rights, built a modern Eeyou nation and changed the course of history for Aboriginal people across Canada for the better.

Since 2003, we have produced Eenou Eeyou, the Grand Council of the Crees’ annual report. This project requires extensive writing, editing and translation into Cree as well as elegant design and production work. Major content elements include descriptions of community life, progress reports on major Cree initiatives and programs, and detailed financial statements and breakdowns of expenditures.
