CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada’s national public broadcaster, relies on an outstanding web presence to maintain its status as a valued resource for news and entertainment. In 2007, CBC contracted with gordongroup on a standing offer basis to put the firm’s web savvy and design thinking to work in enhancing its main portal, CBC.ca, as well as a number of key sub-sites. The challenge for each project was to create unique and engaging features that would connect with audiences in new ways while still representing the longstanding CBC brand well. To achieve this, we focused on the user experience, reorganizing site architecture and integrating the latest in online community-building tools.

gordongroup’s work on a number of web projects was directed by the overarching online strategy we developed for CBC, one focused on driving traffic and generating sales through a better user experience. The new features we recommended were incorporated into our revamped site designs when they fit with CBC’s needs and goals for the site. Online brand development, interactive demos, games and contests, rich media advertising, video and animation were only a few of the creative technical solutions that gordongroup provided. Working under tight deadlines, our web team applied their visionary thinking to www.cbc.ca/entertainment and www.documentarychannel.ca, www.cbc.ca/sports/amateur/marathon, www.cbc.ca/canadawrites and www.cbc.ca/television. We also worked closely with the client to rethink CBC’s e-commerce business lines—CBCShop.ca and CBCLearning.ca—and developed an online marketing strategy to help CBC better market its products online. Finally, we completely redesigned the CBC Corporate site. We consulted extensively with management in order to develop a new site best equipped to fulfill all its communications goals. gordongroup met countless technical challenges with creativity and dedication, and enjoyed a great working relationship with CBC for several years—it’s one that we trust will continue.
